Using the popular television show format of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" Reliant Holdings, Ltd.
held its second Voluntary Protection Plan (VPP) safety contest on August 28, 2006. Eleven contestants,
randomly selected from the divisions of Reliant Holdings, Ltd. competed for prizes including a cruise for
two, airline tickets to any destination within the 48 continental United States, and a cash prize. Kristi
Kinard, the previous VPP contest winner served as hostess along with Fred Vanderburg, Chairman of the Board.
Contestants answered questions covering OSHA General Duty Clause Standards and company policies. They
participated in a written test, a computer test, and a safety observation test recognizing hazards in the
workplace. Points for each contestant were accumulated after the three tests. The top three finalists with
the highest point totals were 1st: John Stafford, 2nd: Buddy Collen, 3rd: Luke Raymond and 4th: Ruben Cavazos. The
top three finalists went on to compete for the final prizes. Scott Vanderburg, President of Reliant Holdings, Ltd. stated
that he "could not be prouder of the coworkers and their participation."
Buddy Collen from Amarillo, Texas was the big winner, and he won a cruise, airfare for two, and $1,500 spending money donated by Safety
Source in Plano, Texas. Higgenbotham Insurance and Financial Services donated two airline tickets to anywhere in
the continental United States to the second prize winner, Luke Raymond from Odessa, Texas. Luke was also awarded $500
in spending money. John Stafford from Carthage, Texas won third prize and was awarded a cash prize of $250. In addition
the winners shared cash prizes with every employee in their respective divisions.
Contestant, Jesse Bersoza, said, "The event was a fun experience that taught me a lot about the company and
the OSHA VPP program." Jay Treat, Risk Manager for Reliant Holdings, Ltd., summed up the event by saying, "It
boosts the moral of the employees knowing that they're involved in the safety of the company which affects all of
us. It was a very well planned and executed event."
